Saturday goings ons

Saturdays usually involve a variety of chores for me. Yesterday was going to purchase Nina's special cat food and kitty medicinal stuff, stakes for our ever growing broad beans and more vodka. We visit Cambridge Cellars in Caulfield for our vodka. They have a huge range of obscure Polish vodkas and they have one of our favourites, Zubrowka, quite cheaply. We always buy the 1 litre bottle but we couldn't resist purchasing this 1.75 litre. It has it's own handle for pouring!!!

After our vodka purchases, we visited After the Tears in Elsternwick for much needed Eastern European food goodness. We are battling the start or end of colds and a good hearty bowl of borscht always seems to help, as does a super spicy bloody mary to wash it down. I was a little concerned that we had consumed way too much 'red food' but it hasn't seemed to have any weird effects.

I have to admit that there was a nanna nap involved after eating so much food, well worth it though!

A change is like a holiday

So you may of noticed that I have been re-jigging the Miss Mardi Nowak blog. I thought that it was time for a bit of a change. The tapestry that was on the old format is getting on a bit now and lives in a private collection so now the 'it-tapestry' is this green one which I must admit is one of my favourites!

I've also culled some links etc with more of a focus on the actual posts and other places that you can find me... especially other crafty, handmakey places such as burdastyle and ravelry.

I'd love to hear what you think... so drop me a line!

Some stuff that I'm digging at the moment is artist/illustrator Irina Troitskaya and her beautiful work, especially her matrioska dolls! She has a flickr site as well so you can see more of her life.

Also loving this series of matrioska dolls too! They are so fantastic! Go here to see all of what's on. I guess I'm on a matrioska and sugar skull kind of mood recently, I love the iconography and meaning of both culturally. Looking forward to seeing lots of sugar skulls in the USA at the Day of the Dead festivals.

Mustaches are all the rage!

Mustaches are all the rage at the moment, especially for the ladies. I'm not sure if it's our fascination with the side show Bearded Lady or the fact that the Dali exhibition has started at the National Gallery of Victoria. What ever the influence, they certainly are rocking!!!!
